Karaganda region will be among pioneers to implement ambitious program for improving the health of monotown residents. This was Kazakhmys Corporation's initiative, having commissioned internationally recognized independent expert studies. Satpayev has been chosen for the pilot project. It will take about 5.5 bln KZT to implement all measures over 3 years. The pilot program is aimed at solidary funding: out of government proceeds and Kazakhmys Corporation.
Karaganda region’s Akimat and Kazakhmys Corporation have concluded a memorandum of cooperation. Mr. Zhenis Kassymbek, akim of Karaganda region and Mr. Eduard Ogai, Chairman of the Management Board, Kazakhmys Corporation LLC signed the agreement during meeting in the city of Zhezkazgan.
“In his Address to Kazakhstani people entitled “Kazakhstan in a New Reality: Time for Action”, the President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted the importance of town-forming enterprises in giving new impetus to our monotowns. Kazakhmys Corporation is actively involved in solving issues important to the region, demonstrating its commitment to corporate social responsibility principles. The company was one of the first to respond to Elbasy’s call for establishing a relief fund to assist people who suffered the effects of the pandemic, and provided extensive support to medical community. Kazakhmys has provided housing for families with many children. I am sure there are more good things yet to come,” noted Zhenis Kassymbek.
The rehabilitation program to improve the health of Satpayev people is to be launched in January 2021. Preliminary research and surveys have been conducted in the town. The experts have made a complete analysis of health organizations and risk factors affecting population’s health. The program developers took into account the opinions of all parties: town residents, doctors and local authorities.
Satpayev town authorities have promised dwellers to provide accessible and high-quality medical care. There will appear services that are not available in Satpayev otherwise people had to travel to other regions to access those services. Efforts will also focus on promoting healthy lifestyle and creating conditions for that.
It is planned to equip the city’s healthcare organizations with new state-of-the-art equipment. Advanced training courses for health workers will be offered. Providing accommodation to young professionals will mitigate human resource challenges.
Mr. Eduard Ogai announced the company’s willingness to finance construction of a new modern outpatients’ clinic in Satpayev.
“We have made a decision to participate in the programme in order to improve the lives of our workers and ensure a decent standard of living. We cannot stay on the sidelines; therefore, we will invest in infrastructure. We believe that the results will be visible in the next three years,” said the Chairman of Management Board, Kazakhmys Corporation LLC.
