KAZ GREEN ENERGY LLC, a part of Kazakhmys Holding LLC Fuel and Energy Complex, has launched a solar power plant in Zhezkazgan.
The general contractor is TechnoGroup Service LLP. The estimated value of the project is KZT 3.7 billion, 30% of which are Kazakhmys Corporation LLC's own funds, and 70% are borrowed funds. This project is implemented as part of Kazakhstan's strategy for transition to green energy, where the renewable energy sources (RES) are planned to reach up to 50% by 2050.
The source of energy - the basic material of the solar power plant - is solar radiation processed by installed solar panels. The panels are protected, and can resist the temperatures down to -45° C. The capacity of these 29,456 solar panels is sufficient to provide up to 1800 individual residential buildings with energy. Zhezkazgan solar power plant is designed to generate up to 14 million of kWh of electric power per year. The project is designed for 27 years.
The electric power will be supplied to Zhezkazgan distributive electric service lines by underground and air tracks. Currently, 3 km of overhead lines are completed and 4 transformer substations are installed on the site. The plant will reach the breakeven point in 7-9 years. It is going to be the fourth solar power plant in Karaganda Oblast, with similar ones launched this year in Saran, Balkhash and Agadyr.
Pre-construction activities started last summer by a subcontractor, Bedel-Kurylys LLP. The main works began in September; the territory of 20.19 hectares was fenced. Structural materials and supports were manufactured in Kazakhstan; most of them were made in Zhezkazgan and Karaganda. Seventy four people were involved in the construction.
